This session explores how healthcare organizations can move beyond policy statements to operationalize straightforward, site-level practices that support Indigenous Peoples’ pursuit of equitable care and fulfill current legislative requirements. Discussing historical elements of federal legislation / limitations and the trauma of segregated “Indian hospitals” for context, this session will focus on the practical role internal champions, leaders, managers, and frontline staff can play, and the ease in which any organization can participate in supporting the creation of a safe space for Indigenous Medicines in a hospital setting.

Session 2: Assessing and managing threats of targeted violence in health-care settings
Speaker: Christine Robinson, Founder, Threat Shield Consulting
This highly interactive session will cover the fundamentals of Behavioural Threat Assessment and Management and will familiarize health-care security professionals with established methods used to assess, mitigate and manage potential threats of targeted violence. Important threat assessment concepts covered will include ‘Hunters vs. Howlers’, the Pathway to Intended Violence the eight Warning Behaviours, and more. Creating robust threat assessment and management teams, and violence prevention strategies will also be explored. Attendees will have the option to participate in web-based live polls, surveys, scenarios, and question and answer forums to enhance learning.

Discrete Weapons Detection Solutions for Healthcare Environments
Studies show that 76% of workplace violence occurs in a healthcare setting. The issue of weapons threats continues to grow, and more healthcare environments are seeking weapons detection solutions that maintain an environment and a brand of care in a discrete and operationally simple manner.
Since December 2024, Xtract One solutions have been tested and deployed in Manitoba Healthcare, Saskatchewan Healthcare, and Nova Scotia Healthcare, and have been tested in Ontario in assorted hospitals. This presentation will provide an overview of solution capabilities, and case studies from deployments, and lessons learned.
